Title : Harnessing AI technology for sustainable aquaculture: Transforming Bangladesh’s blue economy
Abstract:
The burgeoning global demand for seafood, coupled with the pressing need for sustainable food production systems, has positioned aquaculture as a critical component of the blue economy. In Bangladesh, a country with vast aquatic resources and a rapidly growing aquaculture sector, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents a transformative opportunity to enhance productivity, ensure environmental sustainability, and bolster economic resilience. This article explores the potential of AI-driven solutions—such as predictive analytics, automated monitoring systems, and precision feeding technologies—to optimize aquaculture practices in Bangladesh. By leveraging real-time data on water quality, fish health, and environmental conditions, AI can mitigate risks, reduce resource waste, and improve yield efficiency. Furthermore, the adoption of AI aligns with global sustainability goals by minimizing the ecological footprint of aquaculture operations. The article also examines the challenges of implementing AI in a resource-constrained setting, including infrastructure limitations, technical expertise gaps, and financial barriers. Through case studies and policy recommendations, it highlights the role of public-private partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and innovative financing mechanisms in fostering an AI-enabled aquaculture revolution. Ultimately, this study underscores the pivotal role of AI in transforming Bangladesh’s blue economy, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable development in the face of climate change and population growth.
