Biography:
Dr. Atul Kumar Jain is a techno-entrepreneur and founder president of Ornamental Fisheries Training and Research Institute (OFTRI). Earlier, he was a fisheries scientist at ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai from 1983 to 2006 and later established a freshwater ornamental fish farm in the downstream of Asia’s second largest manmade lake “Jaisamand. It was subsequently upgraded to a skill development and research centre. OFTRI has imparted training to about 1000 persons including farmers, entrepreneurs, students, aquarium traders, department officials etc. Many of OFTRI alumnus have established their own ornamental fish production farms or aquarium shops. He has authored three important books on ornamental fisheries namely, BMPs for freshwater ornamental fish production, Policy issues on OFD in India and lastly Ornamental fisheries and aquarium keeping: Insights from the Indian aquarium industry. He is guest faculty and visiting professor at several fisheries colleges in India and associated with schemes and policy formulation for OFD in country.
