Title : Effect of dietary inclusion of carbohydrate-enriched Chlorella vulgaris on growth performance and water quality in Ctenopharyngodon idella

Abstract:

The study was conducted to check the effect of Chlorella vulgaris extract supplementation on the growth performance and water quality parameters of Ctenopharyngodon idella. 240 fingerlings of Ctenopharyngodon idella were taken for the experiment and fed them for 90 days according to 5% of their body weight. There were three treatment groups and one control group and each group contained three replicates. The treatments groups T1, T2 and T3 were contained different ratios of Chlorella vulgaris extract supplementation as 5g, 10g and 15g in plant based feed. However, control group didn’t have Chlorella vulgaris in plant based feed. Different plant based feed was taken for the formulation of feed. After every 15 days, growth parameters of fish were measured and parameters of water quality such as pH, temp, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and TDS were also checked on daily basis. The results demonstrated that treatment 3 showed higher weight as 610.50 ± 0.13d and best FCR as 1.21 ± 0.41c and treatment 3 showed higher length as 109.79 ± 0.16d. The Proximate Analysis showed the higher value of percentage crude Protein in treatment 3 with 69.74 ± 0.31b and lower fat value in Treatment 1 with 12.04 ± 0.64a. However, addition of Chlorella vulgaris in the diet of Ctenopharyngodon idella enhanced the growth of the fish.
